| Lyrics |
And I hear your breath so softly
On the pillow next to mine
And no matter how I try, I know
I can't reach into your mind
It's at times like this I wonder
Are we really all that close
So I close my eyes and drift away
Into something I can't lose
And I can't tell if it's me or you
And I can't tell what I wanna do
If we need so much, why do I feel used?
And if we care so much, why don't I love you?
Now sometimes I seem to find myself
Not wanting to come home
`Cos I know I'll have nothing to say
To a person I don’t know
I could leave you now and start again
But it's hard for me to do
So I'm lying here still next to you
There's a feeling I can't lose
And I can't tell if it's me or you
And I can't tell what I wanna do
If we need so much, why do I feel used?
And if we care so much, why don't I love you?

| A Bit of Trivia |
The original lyrics to this song were written in 1989 after DK and JK had yet another split.
The line in about "Why don't I love you?" in the chorus was originally written as "Why do I hate you?", but it was felt that the sentiment was far too negative and disrespectful, and so the original line was changed to a more positive thought.
The song is probably the strongest on the first album, although let down a little by the lack of a true solo part in the middle, mainly because we ran out of ideas for what to do with it.
The ending is strangely reminiscent of a Doors track, although unintentional.
