Lyrics |
The night I spent with you
Is a night I'll never forget
The night I spent with you
Is a night I'll always regret
There was nothing much between us
I thought that's the way it would stay
Now you tell me something's growing
Inside you every day
The night I spent with you
Started with a casual kiss
The night I spent with you
Never thought it would come to this
You tell me for that night of passion
There’s a price I'm going to pay
And I'd better get used to fatherhood
With a baby on the way
The night I spent with you
This could be my biggest mistake
The night I spent with you
I guess we both found out much too late...
Well your Daddy seems pretty certain
We're gonna be sharing a bed
And it'll be one hell of a wedding
With a shotgun aimed at my head
The night I spent with you
Is a night I'll never forget
The night I spent with you
Is a night I'll always regret
The night I spent with you…

A Bit of Trivia |
A girl that used to babysit for us sometimes while we had practice session etc., Rhonda Richardson, had a boyfriend at the time who had unfortunately got his previous girlfriend pregnant, shortly before they had split up.
This song is loosely based on that story, although a little creative license was used as the couple never actually got married, forced or otherwise.
The song was an attempt to break out of the format that purveyed the rest of the album, and achieve a different style.
While the creativity and intent is evident, maybe the execution is a little lacking.
The baby crying at the end of the song was actually a friend's 12 month old child. We took some recording gear to his house and waited for the baby to wake up.
In normal circumstances, we were assured, the baby would cry quite readily when he was hungry, but on this occasion, spent about an hour happily gurgling away without once crying.
Eventually, the poor thing became so hungry and distressed, we were able to record what we needed!
