Lyrics |
I wake in the morning to see you still dreaming
Your face so serene, but the daylight is calling
I reach out to wake you, you move at my touch
Open your eyes and smile
Put your sunlight in my heart
She don't care for diamonds 'cos everyone has them
She says she needs something with a little more style
Something with passion, like the fire in her eyes
The sparkle of rubies
Her expected surprise
I know we have our ups and downs
But there's one thing that I have found
Though some may say you're no good for me
My love is blind and I can't see....
Sat out on the stairs, listening to you shower
Could've been twenty minutes could've been half an hour
I'm jealous of that water as it covers your body
Could I be that close to you
It's my ultimate dream
I know we have our ups and downs
But there's one thing that I have found
Though some may say you're no good for me
My love is blind and I can't see....

A Bit of Trivia |
Rubies is dedicated to DK's girlfriend at the time, who had a distinct fascination for those particular gemstones.
The original lyrics were written in a fit of depression one night when the girl in question had gone to visit an old flame and had not returned when expected, thereby causing a certain amount of jealousy to arise.
The music was again created on the old Amiga, but was developed at the stage when the programming learning curve was still on it's major upward trend, hence the rather clunky feel to the beat.
It was a difficult song to add any decent guitar parts to, and the result wasn't as good as imagined, sounding a trifle shrill and puerile.
