This was the first live gig
we ever played. It was a 40th birthday party
for one of Rudi's friends, John Field.
We had 8 songs and played them twice. The
second time was with a stand-in drummer, as
the regular drummer, Fred, had had a falling
out with his then girlfriend (now wife) and
announced that he was going outside to break
up with her. We didn't see him again that
night and on the Monday when I saw him at
work he announced that they had got engaged!
The best part about that night was the audience
all dancing to our songs and me dancing and
singing in the middle of them. It was a blast! |
|
|
The party itself was a fancy
dress night - "deadbeats," I think -
so that explains the pretty bad outfits! |
|
|
The second gig at a "Space"
party, hence the Star Trek outfit worn by
the singer. Fred didn't quite get into the
mood of the idea though :-) |

Rudi making an announcement,
not that too many people were taking much
notice at the time. |

This picture is one of the
few that exist of the 3rd gig, which was at
another party for some friends who had recently
got engaged.
We had to set up in a gazebo outside in the
garden. In order to protect our equipment
from any potential rain, we had covered the
frame with tarpaulins. The trouble was, it
made the inside of the "tent" very
hot. The waistcoats were Rudi's idea and I
wore a long black wig.
I was so nervous that night that I drank an
entire stubbie of beer during the intro to
the first song. If you listen to Start of
the Story, you'll understand how short a time
that was!
The engaged couple broke up not long afterwards! |

Welcome to Vibrafeel Studios,
the scene of the crime that was to become
the first album. |

Rudi preparing to weave some
magic on his bass, while Dave E is already
halfway through the song! |
|
|
Making sure they can hear
what's going on. Jenni and Fred "put
their ears on." |
|
|
The drumkit all mic'd up
and ready to go during the first recording
session. |
|
|
Discarded bass during a break.
Probably not the best place to leave it! |
|

Fred grabbing a little refreshment
in between takes. |

Engineer Mick Borkowski caught
by surprise by some dastardly photographer
with an active camera! |
|
|
This picture is from the
last gig we played. DK had a strange idea
of hiring a purple lamé suit and wearing
a salt and pepper wig.
We had invited a lot of people with the offer
of free beer. I think we had about 15 people
there, and a lot of beer left over! |
|
|
David K belting out the vocals! |
|
|
By this point in the evening,
DK had dispensed with the wig, as it had got
extremely hot! |

Rehearsing some songs for
the second CD with our new bass player, Steve,
in the basement of my flat in Windsor. I don't
know what the neighbours thought! :-) |

Mick Borkowski, at Vibrafeel Studios during
the recording of the second CD. |

A drummers-eye view of Warren
Mitchell practising the intro to Choose between

CD. |

The "weapons" waiting
to be used during the recording of the second
CD. |

Dave Elms hard at work on
the acoustic late one friday night. |
|
|
Dave again, but swapping
to a loaned electric guitar. I think that's
a G he's playing! |
|
|
Dave makes a mistake and
laughs through the pickup, which, if you listen
carefully, you can hear in the mix of "All
I Miss (is the Football) because it was accidentally
left in... |
|
|
Dave totally shagged at about
2am one friday night. It was a tough thing
to ask after working all day! |
|
|
We were looking for somewhere
to take some pictures for the cover of the
second CD. We ended up standing in a field
in the rain somewhere out in the wilds of
Pinkenba! |

In September 2006, a small
reunion of the former band members was held
in Brisbane, basically 10 years after we last
played together in any form.
From left: Dave Elms, Steve Norris, David
Kelsey, Jenni Kerle, Fred Waters, and Rudi
Prudon. |
|
|
Our engineer from the studio,
Mick Borkowski (left), was kind enough to
attend, and captured some of the proceedings
on film. What happens to the film is yet to
be determined! |
