Lyrics |
It was a nervous start but I knew in my heart
That I'd always be a part of your life
There's only you and me and we seem to agree
That together we'll be husband and wife
We stand on the threshold, our future looks fine
We stand on the threshold, so come and be mine
On bended knee, oh, come marry me
Church bells, church bells
No need to guess, oh, I knew you'd say yes
Faith tells, faith tells
Well we were holding hands and we're making our plans
Looking forward to our happiest days
The dream is coming true, I'll soon be marrying you
And nothings gonna stand in our way
Well everyone's watching as you walk down the aisle
Yeah everyone's watching, you turn to me and you smile
With all my heart, oh, 'til death us do part
I do, I do
Husband and wife, oh, together for life
So true, so true
There's wedding bells ringing, celebrating the day
There's wedding bells ringing, sending us on our way

A Bit of Trivia |
The conclusion to the trilogy that, as opposed to the other two parts, has no actual basis in fact.
The lyrics to the song were written in April 1993 while flying between Melbourne and Brisbane with a friend who was visiting from the UK, who had unfortunately arrived right in the middle of a marriage breakup.
Given the nature of the circumstances that were occurring at the time, the content of the song is somewhat surprising.
The song itself is rather bland - trite might be a better word - and too "pretty" for it's own good, but I guess the subject matter kind of lends itself to that sort of style. It's not really the best example of our work.
